Project Finishing

Well, this is the final week of work for the project. I had a good time, but I am glad it is almost over.

The most difficult part is going to be trying to get all of my information onto the site without any major problems.

I hope you all ejoy the project.

My Project

I have been busy with the project for a fe weeks now.

Things are looking up as I finally have the budget spreadsheet I need to complete my main page story.

I had a brief problem with a computer virus which threatened my project files which are saved on the infected harddrive, but I managed to temporarily fix the problem well enough so the computer will still work.

Not bad for a technology-lost chump.

Finally, some success

Dear Diary,

It has been a while since we last spoke and so much has happened.

I did an email interview with Scott Walker and 2 aldermen and 2 county supervisors. Most of this information is already up on my site.

Over the weekend Steve and I got to shoot video of McGovern and Dretzka Parks. Good times had by both.

Yesterday I interviewed both Jims from the Park People of Milwaukee.

Yours truely,

Will Mueller

Another week with moderate improvement

Where to start?

It has been almost ten days since I submitted a written request for the parks budget without a reply. Luckily Jessica said that she would get ahold of one via her many years of experience. That is a relief.

Still no reply from Jim Price, which is odd to me because I know him. That really sucks too, because Scott Walker agreed to do an email interview (which is great for me because I will get complete answers which I can post directly to the website) and I was hoping to base my questions for my other interviews on the answers given by the Parks People president.

On a side note, I attended a disc golf meeting tonight for the amateur world championships which will be held in Milwaukee in July and I talked with a person who has been volunteering at Dretzka Park's disc golf course since it has been in the ground. He also said he would answer interview questions once he knew more about the parks people's proposal. I wish I knew more to tell him, but I can not get ahold of their president.

Overall, it was one of my most productive weeks for the project with still not much to show for it.

See yall next week.

Finally, some progress

Today I called Scott Walker's office to see if I could find out where I need to make my open records request. They were very helpful and advised me to go to the Department of Administration Services in the courthouse downtown.

I submitted a written request which I am told was forewarded to the appropriate administrator. The clerk told me that she was in a meeting and would contact me for the specifics of my request. Now I play the waiting game...again.

At least now I have submitted my request and they know they have a 10-day deadline. As I got no response today, I expect on tomorrow and hope to have my budget documents within the 10-day limit.

I plan to visit Dretzka Park this week to hopefully meet some park users and ask them a few questions. I hope to get a picture of them using the park and at least one good quote from them about the park.

Slow Times At Parks Project High

This week has been a brainstorming one.

I have been working on a list of questions to ask bot Jim Price and to ask Scott Walker.

This has been a difficult task as well as finding the parks budget has been. I hope to find the exact location of where the parks budgets are kept so I can go there in person to make a written request. I am pretty sure my two previous verbal requests by phone have been ignored, or that the parks department budget has been cut so far that they are no longer allowed to return phone calls.

I hope to take pictures of the park and get together with my partner Steve before the end of spring break. I feel like I have barely touched this project, and I fear that once we get all of our data that the web-design may present some challenges.

Multimedia Parks

This blog will be used to doccument my progress on my multimedia parks project which relates to Milwaukee County Parks. My partner Steve and I plan to research whether a plan which would put control of the parks into the hands of ordinary citizens might be effective, and whether park users and park neighbors would support such a change.

We plan to interview:
  • A Parks People Spokesperson
  • County Executive Scott Walker
  • Park Neighbors
  • Park Users
  • Park Workers

Please stay with me as I explore this new proposition to change the way our park system is run.
